We welcome you and your family to Whitewood Resort. The comfort and happiness of our guests is our main interest. We are located 120 miles north of the Twin Cities on highway 169 to Aitkin County Road 28, 2 miles east. The trip to Whitewood includes 20 miles of scenic highway along Mille Lacs Lake.
You will find friendly hospitality and fun for the whole family at Whitewood Resort. We are located on the south side of Spirit Lake, 11 miles north of Garrison, and 7 miles south of Aitkin. We are in a wooded location with lots of birch and giant pines. We are away from traffic, and you will find great places for quiet relaxation.
Spirit Lake is crystal clear and spring-fed lake which stays clear and clean all year aound. We have an excellent marked swimming beach, with a gradual depth and a sandy bottom. Dock space is available for each cabin for one boat. A fishing boat is available with cabin rental at no additional cost, and we have fishing motors for rent. Lake front fully-modern cabins (great views of Spirit Lake!) include: baths with showers, bedding, fully equiped kitchens including microwave ovens, coffee pots, dishes, pots, and pans. Please bring your own bath and dish towels. WE DO NOT ALLOW PETS.
Spirit Lake is part of the Ripple River Chain, with abundant protection from high winds and rough water. Large mouth bass fishing is at its best in June, but continues into late August. Spirit Lake is a top fishing lake for all varieties of pan and game fish, including northern pike and walleyes. Whitewood Resort opens for the fishing opener and closes September 30. We have boats and motors, including a pontoon, for rent. Our guests can use our swimming beach, horseshoe court, volleyball court, Hydro-Bikes, kayaks, and swingsets at no additional cost.
There are many lakes in our area for those who like to explore other waters. Most lakes have a public access so you can launch your boat. We are located on The Ripple River Chain of lakes so, if you care to take a canoe trip to other lakes, you can use Whitewood Resort as a starting base. Be sure to check our Cabins page for rates and availability. Specific dates are now posted. We can be reached during the winter months by voice mail or by email. Please use email firstname.lastname@example.org for a quick reply.
The lake froze over mid November after a cooler than average October and November. The ice fisherman have been busy drilling holes in the ice looking for something that wants to bite- the northern pike have been active, stealing our neighbors jigs! There is a little more than a foot of snow, and the wild turkeys and white tail deer have been in the yard checking out the bird feeders. We are busy planning next spring's projects and the usual winter cleanup. The local power company has been busy trimming trees in the area, hoping to alleviate future storm damage to the power lines. This activity has left us with a few logs to cut and split for firewood- a usual winter activity.
Come see us this summer! We have fantastic sunsets and that leads to delicious s'mores at the campfire. The occasional rain shower reminds us to relax with family and friends, play a game or take a nap before heading out for the next great adventure. There are many weekend activities around the area, art galleries, biking and hiking- and a summer favorite- reading in the still morning peace with the birds chirping, the loons swimming by and the eagle flying overhead. See you soon!
