We welcome you and your family to Whitewood Resort. Our main interest is the comfort and happiness of our guests. We are located 120 miles north of the Twin Cities on highway 169 to Aitkin County Road 28, 2 miles east. The trip to Whitewood includes 20 miles of scenic highway along Mille Lacs Lake.
You will find friendly hospitality and fun for all the family at Whitewood Resort. We are located on the south side of Spirit Lake, 11 miles north of Garrison, and 7 miles south of Aitkin. We are in a wooded location with lots of birch and giant pines. We are away from traffic, and you will find great places for quiet relaxation.
Spirit Lake is crystal clean and spring fed, and stays clear and clean all year aound. We have an excellent marked swimming beach, with a gradual depth and a sandy bottom. Dock space is available for each cabin for one boat. A fishing boat is available with cabin rental at no additional cost, and we have fishing motors for rent. Lake front fully modern cabins (great views of Spirit Lake!) include: baths with showers, bedding, fully equiped kitchens including microwave ovens, coffee pots, dishes, pots and pans. Please bring your own bath and dish towels. WE DO NOT ALLOW PETS.
Spirit Lake is part of the Ripple River Chain, with abundant protection from high winds and rough water. Large mouth bass fishing is at it's best in June, but continues into late August. Spirit Lake is a top fishing lake for all varieties of pan and game fish including northern pike and walleyes. Whitewood Resort opens for the fishing opener and closes September 30. We have boats and motors, including a pontoon, for rental. Our guests have use of swimming beach, horseshoe court, volleyball court, Hydro-Bikes, kayaks and swingsets all at no additional cost.
There are many lakes in our area for those who like to explore other waters. Most lakes have a public access so you can launch your boat. We are located on The Ripple River Chain of lakes so if you care to take a canoe trip to other lakes, you can use Whitewood Resort as a starting base. Be sure to check our "Cabins" page for rates and availability. Specific dates are now posted. We can be reached during the winter months by voice mail or by email. There are currently several openings in July due to cancellations. These openings book from Saturday to Saturday. If you are interested, don't wait- they won't last long!
Winter arrived with very little warning, (Okay, we knew it would get here eventually, and being December should be warning enough!) and snowed us in for 4 days straight, leaving us with about 2 feet of snow. We've had a few inches since then, so everything is lovely for snowmobiling. The lake froze over just before Thanksgiving, and it wasn't long before there were brave fisherman out drilling holes- even in below zero temps. I guess when you need a fishing fix, the weather doesn't matter! There is a flock of wild turkeys that show up every couple of days in the yard to look for food, and the woodpeckers have been plentiful at the feeders, but otherwise it is very white and quiet.
Updated bookings are currently available for 2014. What do you get for a family that has everything? Time together for a vacation at the lake! Check out the "Cabins" page and let us know if we can help you plan your next family vacation, fishing trip or lake-side "get-a-way". With our trees for shade and a nice breeze from the lake, this is a great place to be when the weather gets warm! Our lake is spring fed, clear and clean- come enjoy a cool swim at the lake.
